Afternoon Church Family,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all you do in the name of Jesus Christ and carrying the mission to serve the community as well as your church. We could not have done so many things without you this last year.
As I sat and watched the inaugural ceremony today, I could not help but feel that it was a proud moment for America not just African Americans. We stopped backbiting, crossing racial and party lines to celebrate this historical event. It was the common good that we stood for today, that we as Cherry Hill UMC should stand for every day. Praise God for the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and for President Barack Obama.
God is doing some new and incredible things in our lives at Cherry Hill UMC. As we are in our third week of the new year, we already see the launching of new ministries such as the Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen (in February), the “33: The Series” (Men’s based Bible study)(also in February) and Celebrate Recovery (soon thereafter). Now having said that, we must be ready for the shifting of mindsets that comes with each of these new endeavors.
Each will bring more people to experience the love of God through scripture both in our congregation and beyond. Each may bring opportunities for guests during Sunday service. Most importantly, each may bring transformative change not only to others but to our lives as well. Thank you for journeying with us thus far. If we can get each of us to engage in ministry, it makes the load of doing ministry much lighter. Who knows who may become best friends, parent/grandparent figures or great servants through this experience?
Remember that someone out there needs our help through word, song, dance and deed to encourage them, pray for them and support them. Transforming lives is a part of our mission. Winning souls for Jesus Christ is our goal! Continue to journey with me as we make disciples of Jesus Christ! Have a great week!
I am humbled and excited to be your pastor and to experience God’s gift of salvation and the love of Jesus Christ with you.
For now, Pastor Hoover.
